pushed off of the silver swing...

i listened to a lot of old albums at work today.

to start, i went through ALL the shins albums. the reason i thought of the shins was i heard it being played in the movie juno this week. happily, i still enjoy each one, but THEN... near the end of the latest album, i felt like hearing radiohead's "black star."

the night before i had to go back to work, i stayed up until almost 3 a.m. downloading random songs. one of them was a lovely cover of this song by gillian welch. (available at frank's blog this week) i listened to the rest of the bends, and reflected on what a good album it really is. tear.

i went a little further down in my itunes list and started listening to sloan's twice removed album, because... on christmas eve, as craig was driving, nancy played "snowsuit sound" on her ipod. we all sang really loud (as you should do when you are in a moving automobile). sigh. these songs just never get boring. they're classics. the downside to acknowledging that these tunes are classics... is the realization that i'm getting old. waaah.

yet the good stuff keeps coming. how many good bands have i not listened to yet? it's hard to keep up. it also saddens me to think of how little time there is to give some of these songs a second listen.

oh, so i've included a picture of my new area rug and red chair. well, the back of it at least. the place is coming along. i urgently need bookcases to store all the boxed books. and i'm anxious to hang some artwork too. for now, i opted to place a bottle of windex on the floor to help bring out the colours of the rug. what do you think?
