stay warm, don't spend

today i didn't have any plans, and usually that turns into, why don't i go window shopping and find things to buy, things i completely don't need. after shaking myself free of the thought (also remembering that i have just been laid off) i did some online banking. i paid off my visa, and cable bill, both which aren't due until the end of february and january, respectively. it gave me a chance to look over my account balances, think about my next bills, the fact that i spent some money at jane's stamping party on saturday... all the finances were put in perspective.

instead of shopping, i decided to stay home and read my toronto life magazine; i watched the movie elizabeth. i listened to the wind blowing the christmas lights against the glass railing on the balcony. my sister nancy called to say it was freezing outside, and that she was bored because craig had gone to denver for work.

then i decided to bake biscotti, using my trusty kitchenaid mixer. i made this recipe at christmas and wanted to practice the art of biscotti making again. a couple of years ago, i bought a pretty cake stand while visiting my friend nancy in cambridge, and have not made any fancy cakes to display in it yet. but this weekend, i figured that i could stack my baked goods in it, rather than boring tupperware containers. can you tell i'm really into kitchen type things?

tomorrow i need to go for a long walk.
