just like the first day of kindergarten, almost

today i started my new job. i thought i might be more nervous, the closer the day came, but i wasn't at all! i left this morning, and gave myself about twenty minutes to get there, and i arrived a minute or two to nine. as soon as i got there, i was taken into an orientation meeting with a couple other new people. we filled out all our tax forms and such, and then i needed someone to show me where my department was. the place is BIG, and it's easy to get lost.

quite a few of my former co-workers are in my department, known as eBusiness. i sit right beside one of them too, so there was no trauma at all. my laptop and monitor were all set up for me to log into. that part was kind of sad. i missed my former light and modern dell laptop, and 20 inch flat panel monitor. everyone here has thinkpads and 15 inch screens... boo hoo. i shouldn't even be complaining. i am lucky to be working again so soon!

the rest of the day i became familiar with the web site, installed some things, read through the intranet... i recall one moment where my head almost dipped from boredom. these were the moments when my friend artur wasn't doing site walkthroughs with me. when he told me that they monitor the employee internet viewing i panicked and did not log on to msn all day, for fear that my messages would be monitored, and that i'd be bombarded with messages asking about my first day.

i was taken on another tour of the office, similar to the one i had the day of my interview. i was taken out through a bunch of stairwells up through to half floors, down to hidden sections with departments i'd never heard of. it's a real maze. i saw a "quiet room" with a lazy boy and pillows, where people can sign up to take naps. the "lunch room" is this huge, colourful room with big windows, a foosball table and xbox. looks like it'll be fun.

the one sad thing, the area's food options. if i ever forget to bring my lunch, i may have to eat at mcdonald's. ack.
